A theory of quantum gravity, loop quantum gravity (LQG) attempts to merge quantum mechanics and general relativity, incorporating matter of the Standard Model into the framework established for the pure quantum gravity case. As a candidate for quantum gravity, LQG competes with string theory.. According to Albert Einstein, gravity is not a force – it is a property of spacetime itself.   Someday I would like to write a modified version of this book which eliminates all the knot theory and loop quantum gravity, and says more about differential geometry, special relativity, Maxwell's equations, the Yang-Mills equations and general relativity. That would be a more conservative book, written by an older and wiser man.

Much. Since Lee Smolin has been one of the leading figures both in the string theory and in the theory of loop quantum gravity, I hoped this book would clarify some questions I was left with after reading Carlo Rovelli's Reality Is Not What It Seems: The Journey to Quantum Gravity.I think the main reason both the books failed to do the job is the fact that I lack the adequate background to /5(83).

Loop representations (and the related topic of knot theory) are of considerable current interest because they provide a unified arena for the study of the gauge invariant quantization of Yang-Mills theories and gravity, and suggest a promising approach to Knots eventual unification of the four fundamental forces.4/5(1).

Loops, Knots, Gauge Theories and Quantum Gravity by Gambini & Pullin; You can also check out some latest reviews on the subject on e-Print archive. Attempts have been made to describe gauge theories in terms of extended objects such as Wilson loops and loop representation is a quantum hamiltonian representation of gauge theories in terms of loops.

The aim of the loop representation in the context of Yang–Mills theories is to avoid the redundancy introduced by Gauss gauge symmetries allowing to work directly in the space. BOOK REVIEW: Loops, Knots, Gauge Theories and Quantum Gravity, by Rodolfo Gambini and Jorge Pullin Lewandowski, Jerzy; Abstract.

Not Available. Publication: General Relativity and Gravitation. Pub Date: February DOI: /A Bibcode: GReGrL Author: Jerzy Lewandowski. Loop quantum gravity is string theory’s biggest competitor. It gets less press than string theory, in part because it has a fundamentally more limited goal: a quantum theory of gravity.

Loop quantum gravity performs this feat by trying to quantize space itself — in other words, treat space like it. Summary: Providing a self-contained introduction to applications of loop representations and knot theory in particle physics and quantum gravity, this text reviews loop representation theory, Maxwell theory, Yang-Mills theories, lattice techniques, knot and braid theory, and describes applications in quantum gravity.

field theories and its relation to the new knot invariants. In addition to understanding the Chern-Simons state as a bridge between knot theory and quantum gravity, there is the much larger task of making the loop rep-resentation of quantum gravity into a mathematically rigorous theory and justifying.

While loop quantum gravity has produced lots of results, there are gaps to ll in. One of them is the low-energy limit: does loop quantum gravity have general relativity as the correct low-energy limit.

At present loop quantum gravity, like all theories of quantum gravity, lacks experimental veri cation. It may be possible to get predictions. This is an introduction to the basic tools of mathematics needed to understand the relation between knot theory and quantum gravity.

The book begins with a rapid course on manifolds and differential forms, emphasizing how these provide a proper language for formulating.
